Experts say it's very important to make sure your car is ready for what lies ahead weather wise.
Mechanics say cold weather can be really hard on your vehicle. They say most people don't think about it until it's too late.
Dan Pflibsen, owner of Dan's Auto Care in Quincy, said his shop is busier in the winter months. That's often because drivers didn't get their vehicles serviced on a regular basis.
Pfibsen said if you haven't had your car serviced recently, a simple tune-up at a local shop can prevent all kinds of problems in the winter.
"You're going to have him check your battery, wiper blades and try to prep you for winter," Pfibsen said. "Tires - brakes if needed - but your utmost is that battery. That battery can really become a problem."
Pflibsen said auto mechanics will be able to tell what kind of life is left in your battery, which can die much faster in the cold.
Pfibsen said things that seem like small purchases, like "winter* windshield wipers, can really make a big difference during winter weather.
But Pfibsen really stresses the importance of getting a quick check-up service by a professional who will be able to spot any potential problems with your vehicle ahead of time.
