Lee County Board approves more jail officers

The Lee County Board of Supervisors approved two more correctional officers for the Lee County Jail during a meeting Tuesday.

Sheriff Stacy Weber said he asked the board to approve four officers, but the board approved two. He made the request because of safety concerns for his staff.

Weber said there are 14 correctional officers with more than 90 people in the jail. He said the jail finally went below 100 inmates on Tuesday.

Weber said the positions will be filled with part time officers who have been with the department for several years.

The goal is to have the changes in place as soon as possible, according to Weber. He said this will be a good thing for safety in the jail.
