Day three of the Bucket Blitz for the Salvation Army Christmas Campaign is underway. Part of the money raised goes towards services like disaster relief.

Emergency Disaster Services coordinator Jeremy Koren said the Salvation Army sends what they call canteens to disasters like floods or tornadoes.

If a family is displaced by a fire or a widespread power outage happens, Koren said the essentials are taken care of.

"We support the first responders," stated Koren. "We partner with other agencies and we help those affected by the actual disaster or fire themselves."

Koren explained they have a crew always on the ready that provides relief efforts locally for 3 counties in Illinois, and 5 counties in Missouri.

"We have a crew on standby 24/7. So if there's a big house fire, anything like that, we can get out there in a moment's notice with warm coffee for our firefighters and police officers along with Gatorade, water, granola bars, stuff like that.."

Volunteers will be out at 33rd and Broadway until 6:30pm Wednesday and Thursday to collect monetary donations. If you can't stop by to donate, you can text DonateQuincy, all one word, to 41444.
