Road closures in Hannibal for paving project

The Hannibal Street Department and Bross Construction will be milling and paving from Broadway Extension/Grand Avenue starting at the Save-A-Lot grocery store to the James Road area on Monday, May 7 starting at 7 a.m.

Hannibal Street Supervisor Mike McHargue said the work is meant to keep the road flat and prevent issues including water drainage.

The road will have a detoured route and will be open to residents who reside on the street to access their homes.

"Most of the locals can figure out not to use Broadway Extension but avoid the area as much as possible and give the work crews safer and have a little patience," McHargue added.

Residents are asked not to park their vehicles on the street. Parking in this area will be extremely limited but several sides streets are available. Some residents may have to walk a little further. Milling crews will begin promptly at 7 a.m. and paving crews will follow just a couple of hours after so the particular road can be done very quickly.

Huckleberry Bakery & Bistro, located at 2611 St Mary's Ave, is in the area of the project route and employee Gina James believes their business will be effected by the work, but is glad city streets are being fixed.

"The streets in Hannibal need a lot of improvement but it's been good the ones that they are doing, if their are gonna close everything down it's gonna effect business," James said.

The Hannibal Street Department hopes work will be complete by Friday, May 11, if weather permits.
