LA HARPE, Ill. (WGEM) -

The former mayor of LaHarpe, Illinois pleaded guilty to an official misconduct charge stemming from an incident last year.

In Hancock County Court this week, Ryan Kienast, 40, pleaded guilty to one count of attempted official misconduct, a Class A misdemeanor.

Kienast was accused of ordering a city employee to use a backhoe to remove dirt from his property at 605 E. Main.

The circuit clerk's office said Kienast was sentenced to 12 months court supervision and will have to pay $1,099 in fines and fees.

As part of the negotiated plea, his Class 3 felony was dropped.

He had waived his right to a jury trial last month.

He resigned as mayor in May 2017.
