QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) -

State Street Bank in Quincy presented a $500 check to the new Rooney Elementary School at 48th and Columbus Road Monday.

The money will be used for the purchase of trees and landscaping on the new campus.

The check was presented to Superintendent Roy Webb and Principal Melanie Schrand Monday morning at 10 a.m at the school.

The Future Principal Melanie Schrand says this will help create a better environment for the students.

"It shows another way our Quincy community is stepping up and reaching out for the students of the Quincy Public School and making sure to create an inviting environment for them that they'll want to," Schrand said.

Rooney Elementary School will open August 2019.
