CARTHAGE, Ill. (WGEM) -

More than 200 first-grade students got a lesson in agriculture in Hancock County, Illinois Tuesday morning.

It's called "Down on the Farm,"

Students went hands on to learn about tractors, combines, farm safety, bee keeping and raising farm animals.

The Hancock County Farm Bureau and dozens of volunteers hosts the event every year to let kids know the ins and outs of farming.

"I was just talking with a class over here, none of the kids live on a farm," Bryan Stevens,  Hancock County farmer said. "That's very common. There are fewer and fewer farmers so we need to do this more and more to talk to the kids more."

"It's awesome, I like all of it actually," Student Reese Vass said.

This was the 14th year of the event and students were able to take home projects made at the nine learning stations.
