Macomb's Wohlstadter pledges to run at Monmouth College
Macomb's Emma Wohlstadter will study abroad in Spain this upcoming school year before heading to Monmouth.
MACOMB, Ill. (WGEM) -- Macomb was the place to be Friday as five Bombers signed on the dotted line, including one of the school's top distance runners Emma Wohlstadter.
She is heading to Monmouth College in the fall of 2019 to join the track and cross country programs.
In a bit of a twist Wohlstadter will spend the upcoming school year in Spain to study abroad and prepare her body for college athletics.
"I decided that I was not going to compete," she said about taking a year off.
"I (am) just going to spend the year training so I don't have to worry about the different dynamics of running a certain length, and then running a shorter length, just train to help grow my legs and arms stronger for less injuries."
Wohlstadter chose Monmouth after falling in the love with the campus when she visited.
She also liked the coaches she met with and their philosophies on individual training.
