QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) -- The Quincy High School track and field program is sending two of its own to the next level.

Katie Vogler and Maurice Silas made their commitments official Wednesday afternoon.

Vogler is off to Illinois Wesleyan to showcase her distance talents.

"It's amazing. I didn't think I was going to get here when I started looking at colleges, I was thinking of big schools. I knew I wasn't going to be able to run (Division I) but I thought that was kind of my plan," Vogler said.

"But as I got going I realized I really want to run track in college, and so that completely switched my mindset of where I was looking at college."

Silas has become a force in the triple jump and hopes the best is yet to come.

Silas chose Graceland University for an opportunity he says he's ready to take on.

"It's a lot tougher than high school. You are going to have a lot of struggles, but if you love track, you're going to stick with it," Silas indicated.

"I'm thinking that's what's going to motivate me, just the love for track and the love that I want to do."

Both Vogler and Silas excel in music and will continue playing oboe and trumpet respectively at their next stops.
