K of C BBQ promotes family fun, benefits local charities

The annual K of C Barbeque runs through August 12 at the Knights of Columbus grounds on South 36th Street in Quincy.

The fundraiser, organized the Quincy Knights of Columbus Council 583, aims to provide a family fun environment pack with food, games and carnival rides while raising money for local charities, according to member Bob Klingele.

Quincy Catholic Charities received a $5,000 donation last year from the Quincy Knights of Columbus Council 583, according to their Area Director Jackie Bruns. The money helped the group buy extra food for their pantry.

"It was a really nice surprised to received that $5,000 dollar donation at the holiday time when a lot of people are in need," Bruns said.

Local schools and other organizations including Birthright have benefited in the past, according to K of C organizers.

"It's a need you know, the need is there and we're their to help, we hope to get a couple two or three new ones but there's always someone who shows up so the need is always there," Klingele said.

Klingele says it is unclear how much money they will raise this year, saying the turn out usually depends on the weather.

Admission to the barbeque and parking is free.
