PALMYRA, Mo. (WGEM) -

The city of Palmyra is taking steps to growing business in its backyard right as the new Warren Head business park starts to take shape.

Right now, Quincy-based company Rack Builders Inc. is the only business constructing a building on the 80 acre section of land.

It's the first of several businesses the city hopes to attract to Palmyra's southeast side.

Thursday, city council heard the first reading of a bill for the subdivision plat for businesses that want to set up shop there.

Mayor Loren Graham said the business park will be divided into roughly 5 acre plats of land.

He said the business park will bring jobs to Palmyra and help increase tax revenue.

"We've had interest from other businesses about purchasing some lots so I think we're going to see some tremendous growth in the next few years out there." said Graham.

Graham expects the road leading into the park will be complete by the end of the month and crews will finish work on other infrastructure, such as sewer and water lines as land is sold.

At Thursday's City Council meeting, councilman also approved a bid for $128,000 dollars to repair several streets. Council members also approved the city's tax levy for 2018. Finally, the council gave police chief Eddie Bogue permission to apply for a grant for new portable radios.
