Some Illinois residents may be getting a check in the mail of unclaimed money from the state treasurer's office and now you don't have to file a claim for it.

State treasurer Michael Frerichs has launched a new "Money Match" program that uses existing technology and state records to match unclaimed money with Illinois residents. It must be $2000 or less Frerichs says.

In Adams County, there is an estimated 189 properties valued at roughly $38,000.

The goal of the new program is to return money faster.

"We know that we can put an extra $20 to $100 into someone's pocket and they spend it at a local restaurant or business, that will have a greater impact on the local economy and that's why we are doing this," Frerichs said.

If you'd like to see if you're owed money, you can search the State Treasurer's Database for your name or the name of your business or non-profit.
