FORT MADISON, (WGEM) -- As the wait continues amid the coronavirus pandemic for flights to resume to Washington D.C., local support for the Great River Honor Flight continues to be strong.

On Tuesday night, the Fort Madison American Legion Post 82 presented the Great River Honor Flight with a $7,000 donation. The post raised the money at breakfast that was held back in early August.With Tuesday’s donation, the Fort Madison American Legion Post 82 has now supported the Honor Flight with over $36,000 since 2016.

Donations like this will be used to help pay for local Veterans to fly to Washington D.C. to see the memorials and sites in their honor.As of now, Great River Honor Flight officials say they are continuing to monitor the protocols regarding COVID-19 and hope to resume flights in April of 2022.
