FORT MADISON, Iowa (WGEM) – Fort Madison voters reelected incumbent Mayor Matt Mohrfeld on Tuesday for a second term as mayor.

Mohrfeld beat out challenger Rodney Hoskins II in the city election.

Mohrfeld got 564 votes with Hoskins II getting 135.

Mohrfeld has been mayor for two years and said he wants to continue to see Fort Madison grow.

“We’re working on some new housing. We’re going to do that through some infrastructure improvements. You saw our new highway going through down there. We’re going to do that through some curb appeal. Our town’s getting prettier every day,” Mohrfeld said.

Mohrfeld has held several positions besides mayor, including county supervisor and councilman. He touts completing several infrastructure projects like beautifying neighborhoods and he wants to continue those efforts.

“I think the people of Fort Madison deserve a good quality of life. They deserve good infrastructure. They work hard in our town. We’re built on heritage and the river and we need to maximize the value of both of those. So, if you believe in that, I’m the person you should vote for,” Mohrfeld said.
