QUINCY (WGEM) - The Illinois Department of Transportation said the long-awaited re-opening of Quincy’s Memorial Bridge is set to happen on November 30.

The $7.5 million project started last April, closing the eastbound Memorial Bridge for repairs and creating 2-lane traffic on the normally westbound-only Bayview Bridge.

Regular commuters were often frustrated with rush hour traffic and concerned about the safety of Bayview Bridge holding so much traffic.

“There was a bigger space and there wasn’t so much tension while driving and I have anxiety driving over the bridge because it’s so close to everything and just jam-packed,” said high school senior Rezza Cartmill.

IDOT is certain the bridge will open again at the end of this month.

However, if painting and repairs are not finished by then, they might need to close the bridge again in the spring.
