FORT MADISON, Iowa (WGEM) -- Police in Fort Madison have confirmed the identity of the 15-year-old boy they said was shot and killed Wednesday.

Deeunta “Dee” Q. Ceaser was pronounced dead Wednesday night at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in Fort Madison. Seventeen-year-old Dimari D.J. Meredith has been charged with first-degree murder in the shooting.

Chief of Police Mark Rohloff previously reported that Meredith had been at the home in the 4200 Block of Avenue L on Wednesday where Ceaser was found in a bedroom suffering from a gunshot wound.

Rohloff said Fort Madison firefighters provided medical assistance on the scene until Lee County EMS could take the boy to the hospital. He was pronounced dead shortly afterward by medical staff there.

Rohloff said Meredith was questioned on the scene and later taken to the Lee County Juvenile Detention Center.

A weapon and other evidence was recovered from the victim’s home, Rohloff said.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is assisting with the investigation.
