Protecting against carbon monoxide poisoning in the workplace
QUINCY (WGEM) - The Illinois Department of Labor has issued a warning about carbon monoxide poisoning in the workplace.
Officials say workers in the manufacturing industry are at a greater risk of carbon monoxide poisoning during winter months.
Knapheide Manufacturing’s safety manager says the company takes precautions to ensure the safety of its workers.
“We do air sampling, testing for things like carbon monoxide, testing for total dust particulates in certain areas, welding fumes, and other things like that to make sure that levels are below the permissible exposure limits, “ Knapheide Corporate Safety Manager Mike Dailing said.
Knapheide officials say while carbon monoxide poisoning is rare, they make sure that their workers know how to recognize the signs of carbon monoxide poisoning, which include headache, fatigue, confusion and breathing problems.
