QUINCY (WGEM) - Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon has identified the victim of a homicide whose body was found Wednesday in a car.

In a statement released Friday, Allmon reported that Derek J. Banker Barnett, 30, of Virden, Illinois, was the man found in a vehicle in Springfield. The release stated that Allmon pronounced Banker Barnett dead at 3:34 p.m. Wednesday.

According to Allmon’s release, preliminary autopsy findings suggest Banker Barnett died from a gunshot wound. The death is under investigation by the Sangamon County Coroner and the Springfield Police Department.

Barnett’s body was found near where U.S. Marshals arrested Bradley S. Yohn, 34, of Springfield, Illinois, and Karen D. Blackledge, 32, of Quincy, about 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Yohn and Blackledge each face two counts of home invasion, aggravated kidnapping, aggravated vehicular hijacking, residential burglary and aggravated criminal sexual assault in Adams County. In addition, Yohn was charged with an additional vehicular hijacking that occurred in Adams County last week.

They are in custody in Springfield.
