Coldest temps of the season so far; brief warmup ahead
QUINCY (WGEM) - Overnight low temperatures will bottom out in the upper teens (far north) to mid-20s (far south). These will be the coldest temperatures we’ve seen so far this season. For your eclipse viewing potential, skies look to remain mostly clear at the onset although clouds will again move in across the northwestern sections after 4 AM.
Friday remains seasonable with breezy conditions as winds may gust to 25-30 mph at times. However, more seasonable, slightly above normal temperatures return for the weekend before strong cold front ushers in the next blast of cold air overnight Sunday into Monday morning. A few scattered showers or sprinkles are possible, especially across the northern tier, Saturday night into Sunday morning but this is not expected to amount to anything noteworthy.
Thereafter, a ridge of high pressure brings much cooler temperatures into the ridge to start the work week off before temperatures moderate again by mid to late week making for a seasonable Thanksgiving forecast at this juncture. In short, a mostly dry forecast with a roller coaster ride for temperatures over the next 7 days.
