PALMYRA, Mo. (WGEM) - Marion County officials are in the process of trying to replace the roof on the county jail.

Sheriff Jimmy Shinn said the leaking has been dangerous for employees and inmates. He wants to see the roof replaced by next spring.

Shinn said the construction could cost more than $500,000.

“We have basically just patched and sealed it for the time being to try to get us through, in an efforts to raise funds for the rebuilding for the roof,” Shinn said. “It’s going to be quite expensive, of course.”

Shinn said they are looking into using capital improvement funds and general revenue from the county budget to fix the roof.
