Sheriff identifies man accused of setting homes, vehicle on fire

HULL, Ill. (WGEM) - Pike County Sheriff David Greenwood revealed more details about a string of fires Sunday morning.

Greenwood stated Brian Morris, 41, of Hull, Illinois, was taken into custody shortly before 11:30 a.m. Sunday.

According to Greenwood, a deputy was responding to a call of a person setting houses on fire. When the deputy arrived on scene, he saw Morris running with a gas can that was on fire. During the arrest, Morris allegedly poured gas on a vehicle, then set it on fire.

Morris is accused of setting five houses on fire, including his own, and a vehicle, leaving six separate crime scenes. Greenwood said people were in three of the houses when the fires were set, but no injuries were reported. Greenwood said only Morris’s house had significant structural damage.

Morris was taken to the the Pike County Jail. Charges have not been filed yet.
