HANNIBAL (WGEM) - There’s an extreme need to feed the hungry in Marion County, and local organizations are working to do just that.

The Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri hosted their annual partnership against hunger food drive Tuesday at the County Market in Hannibal.

All of the food and money collected will be divided among agencies, like Douglass Community Services and the Salvation Army.

Northeast Regional Coordinator Steve Yager said he has seen an increase in the demand for food in the Hannibal area.

“We’re just needing to fill the shelves before the winter months as we are coming into the winter months,” Yager said. “This is a crucial time. We have seen a 40% increase this time last year, so the need is really great.”

Yager said for every $1 donation they receive they are able to produce $21worth of groceries.

If you would like to make a donation, you can do so on their website.
