John Wood Community College accepting food pantry donations
QUINCY (WGEM) - John Wood Community College is wrapping up a month long food drive for the food pantry that serves their students. Now, they’re asking for help to keep the pantry stocked year-round.
Student life coordinator Eric Foster said the pantry is the main source for day-to-day meals and snacks for some students. He said about 15 people used the pantry Thanksgiving week.
“We see students who, if they’re struggling in the classroom, there can be a correlation between that and not eating or the stress of not knowing where the next meal is going to come from,” Foster said. “There are some students that we’re the sole giver of their food.”
He said they’ll continue accepting donations even after the food drive is over at the end of November.
“The more options we have, the more toiletries or food or snacks or meals definitely affects how much we have, but I would say on average, we help about 10 students a month,” Foster said.
He said you can donate nonperishable food items and toiletries at their main campus or give monetary donations to the JWCC Foundation online.
JWCC students who need access to the pantry can fill out this form to arrange pick-up opportunities.
