Quincy Memorial Bridge to open Tuesday
QUINCY (WGEM) - The Illinois Department of Transportation announced Monday that the Quincy Memorial Bridge will open to traffic on Tuesday.
IDOT officials said normal traffic patterns would resume Tuesday for both the Bayview Bridge and the Quincy Memorial Bridge. However, some lanes may be closed while crews remove traffic control devices.
Officials said all lanes are scheduled to be open by the end of the week.
IDOT reported the $7.25 million project consisted of resurfacing the bridge deck, joint replacements and repairs, painting, structural steel repairs, and lighting replacement.
IDOT added remaining work will be completed next spring.
The bridge has been closed since April 23.
Over the next six years, IDOT said it is planning to improve more than 3,500 miles of highway and 9 million square feet of bridge deck as part of the Rebuild Illinois capital program, which is investing $33.2 billion into all modes of transportation. Accomplishments through Year Two included approximately $5.2 billion of improvements statewide on 3,020 miles of highway, 270 bridges and 428 additional safety improvements.
