RALLS CO., MO (WGEM) - A Hannibal man died Tuesday morning in a Ralls County, Missouri, crash on Route 19.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported Tuesday afternoon that 55-year-old Melvin Hesel of Hannibal, Missouri, who was a pedestrian, had died in the crash.

MSHP stated that Hesel was kneeling in the northbound lane when he was struck by the driver of a Volvo truck tractor.

Hesel was pronounced dead at the scene by Ralls County Coroner Robert Vanwinkle at 7:05 a.m.

The crash forced law enforcement to close a portion of Missouri Route 19 for several hours Tuesday morning.

The Missouri Department of Transportation said Missouri Route 19 was closed between Ralls County Route D and Wisconsin Lane from around 5:30 a.m. to 8:40 a.m.
