Quincy mascots raise money for Salvation Army

QUINCY (WGEM) - Five mascots from schools across Quincy are competing to raise money for the Salvation Army in their Captain Kettle Mascot Challenge.

The Quincy High School Blue Devil, played by senior Grayson Cook, kicked off the challenge Monday at the Broadway Hy-Vee from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m..

Throughout the week, a different mascot will ring a bell at either the Hy-Vee Broadway or County Market on 24th Street and try to raise the most money.

“It feels good to help the community, and like I said, it’s nice to see people smile and help out,” Cook said.

The Quincy Notre Dame Raider will get his shot Tuesday at Hy-Vee Broadway from 5 to 7 p.m.

QU’s Victor E. Hawk will be up Thursday at County Market on 24th along with The Quincy Gem’s Gem Bird, who will be at the Hy-Vee on Broadway. They both go on from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

John Wood Community College’s Woody the Trailblazer will round out the competition on Friday at Hy-Vee on Broadway from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m..

The winner will be announced the week of Dec. 13.
