Quincy 3-year-old severely burned, man arrested
QUINCY (WGEM) - A Quincy man has been arrested after a 3-year-old child was taken to the hospital with severe burns, according to the Quincy Police Department.
Lt. Kathy Schisler with the Quincy Police Department reported that 35-year-old Raphael A. Wires was arrested outside of his home on Thursday and charged with aggravated battery of a child, endangering the life of a child.
Schisler reported that Police were notified by St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Illinois, that they were treating a 3-year-old child for burns that the child received the previous day at a residence in Quincy.
Schisler stated the child had been taken to Blessing Hospital the previous evening and flown to St. John’s Hospital due to the severity of the burns.
According to Schisler, detectives assigned to the case and DCFS investigators met with St. John’s Pediatric ICU staff and investigated the circumstances that led to the child’s injuries.
Schisler said after reviewing the detectives’ findings and medical records, a warrant was obtained for Wires.
Wires’ bond is set at $1,000,000 with 10% to apply.
