HANNIBAL, Mo. (WGEM) - Toys for Tots of Northeast Missouri made a difference Tuesday by distributing Christmas toys to families in need.

Volunteers handed out unwrapped toys from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Admiral Coontz Recreation Center in Hannibal.

1,300 children from across Northeast Missouri will be getting toys to unwrap for Christmas this year through the Toys for Tots campaign. Half of those children are from Hannibal.

Hannibal resident Shannon Stubbs said if it weren’t for Toys for Tots, his 5-year-old son would not have any gifts to open this year.

“Well if it wasn’t for them, my child wouldn’t be getting a Christmas at all,” Stubbs said. “I’m on disability, and I live on one check and it’s hard to make do with that.”

Toys for Tots is still looking for volunteers to help distribute gifts in Bowling Green, Mo., from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday.
