Quincy City Council approves rental rehab program
QUINCY (WGEM) - The Quincy City council approved the small rental rehabilitation program Monday night.
The city’s general fund will contribute $1 million over the next four years to help developers renovate vacant properties and create more housing options.
Mayor Mike Troup said each unit would be eligible for up to $20,000, however, the incentive would not exceed 50 percent of the total cost to rehab it.
“Well, one, they’re going to get better housing. As the property owners look at this program, apply and get approved for it, make the improvements, I think we’re going to have several additional properties improved, ready for rental units or rental occupancy for the next five years,” Troup said.
Troup said properties would be subject to an annual inspection to make sure landlords are doing maintenance.
This program is similar to one Quincy had between 1996 and 2009.
