QUINCY (WGEM) - Two separate Tri-State schools reported Wednesday they would be closed Thursday and Friday.

Central CUSD No. 3 in Camp Point, Illinois, reported they would be closed due to a high number of staff members with COVID-19.

Superintendent Erica Smith said the school is seeing the highest number of positive COVID-19 cases among staff since the pandemic began.

She said she hoped that by taking Thursday and Friday off and taking advantage of the Martin Luther King Holiday on Monday that students could return to a safe and productive school on Tuesday.

St. James Lutheran School in Quincy is also closing Thursday and Friday, according to Principal Nathan Landskroener.

Landskroener said the closure was not due to COVID-19, but a high number of absences. He said it was better to teach students in person, and they would reopen the school on Tuesday.
