QUINCY (WGEM) - Adams County is seeing a rise in COVID-19 cases with 277 new positive cases Wednesday.

As COVID-19 cases rise in Adams County, wait times for COVID-19 testing at Blessing Express Clinic remain multiple hours long.

They have been testing around 250 people every day since Christmas Eve. The average wait time at the clinic is about two-and-a-half hours, with four hours being the longest.

Blessing Director of Primary Care Services Tena Awerkamp said they have added more testing lanes to try to make the process faster.

“In the last maybe 10 days, we have added a line or two where we have adequate providers and staffing,” Awerkamp said. “We have added a line to help improve that wait time and then we are also collaborating with Adams County Health department to see our vaccines so we are no longer administering vaccines at the clinic temporarily.”

She said having additional testing sites in Quincy would make the process faster.

“I think we are doing a great job, but of course we would welcome any other help we can get in the community to help us perform the tests,” Awerkamp said. “But, we are doing the best we can with what’s out there for us.”

The Adams County Health Department used to administer testing, but stopped. Health Department Infectious Disease Supervisor Jon Campos said they don’t have the money to continue right now.

“So we have a testing center open on an emergency basis due to need,” Campos said. “Unfortunately those resources and dollars and grants from the state have dried up, and we are unable to perform that at this time.”

Campos while there are few testing sites in Adams County, he thinks there is a reason why cases are so high.

“We think the numbers are being really driven by those that are refusing to quarantine, wear a mask or get vaccinated,” Campos said.

The Blessing Express Clinic is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends.

To shorten the wait time for testing, the Blessing Express Clinic suggests calling ahead and pre-registering before arrival.
