QUINCY (WGEM) - Blessing Hospital is preparing to see an increase in COVID-19 hospitalizations.

As of Wednesday morning, there were 43 people at Blessing Hospital with COVID-19. Ten patients were admitted the previous day.

55 percent of Tuesday’s 127 emergency room patients were there for reasons related to COVID-19.

Chief Quality and Safety Officer Dr. Mary Frances Barthel said while the number of hospitalizations hasremained steady, they are preparing for an increase.

“We have resumed some planning as far as if we do get to a point where we need more negative pressure rooms, so we have re-engaged our construction crews to talk about that, where would it be, how long would it take to deploy that. Just to prepare in case the hospitalizations do go up,” Barthel said.

Barthel said the most important thing to do to protect yourself and others is stay home if you are sick.

She also said wearing a mask in public and social distancing will prevent the spread of COVID-19.
