QUINCY (WGEM) - An offer of tests and human resources from the Illinois Department of Public Health has the Adams County Health Department weighing whether to restart its COVID-19 testing efforts.

IDPH said Wednesday night they reached out to Adams County to offer tests and workers to help distribute them.

Adams County Health Department spokeswoman Emily Andrews said the tests being offered, though, are not rapid tests. They must be sent off for analysis, and would take 24 to 48 hours to get results.

“Right now, we are in communication with the Illinois Department of Public Health,” Andrews said. “We are talking with them to see what the benefits would be of offering a test that might take a little longer than a rapid test for our community.”

Andrews said the department is trying to determine whether the tests would actually be beneficial. They hope to make a decision soon.

In the meantime, she said the department is continuing to work to support local health care providers.
