QUINCY (WGEM) - Twenty one local non-profits received grants in Samantha Otte’s memory benefiting hundreds of youth in the area.
The grants total about $50,000, and came from the Samantha Otte Youth Opportunity Fund.
This fund honors the life of Samantha Otte who passed away in 2000 at the age of 10 after a liver transplant necessitated by cystic fibrosis.
Since the fund was established, fund organizer, June Otte, said more than $480,000 have gone to support kids in her memory.
“There are some great non-profits in Quincy that help children who are at risk and all of the grants today will stay in this area and it’s wonderful all the opportunities that will come to these children as a result of these grants,” Otte said.
One non-profit that received a grant was Junior Achievement. The funds will help them in their efforts to provide life-changing financial literacy programming to children at the Quincy Public School system.
