QUINCY (WGEM) - A Blue Alert message sent to cellphone users left many people scratching their heads Tuesday.

The alert described a vehicle from the 1989 movie “Batman” and said it was from Gotham City. Shortly afterward, a second alert went out canceling the Blue Alert, saying the first message was a test.

An operator for the Missouri State Highway Patrol said the first message was the result of an error during training.

According to the State of Missouri, the Blue Alert system is designed to notify law enforcement and the public “about violent offenders who have killed, seriously injured, or pose an imminent and credible threat to law enforcement.”
