QUINCY (WGEM) - Plans are underway to turn the former E. Best Plumbing & Heating Supply Company building at 628 Jersey St. in Quincy into a PHAST Tracks Indoor Mountain Bike Park.

Darin Thomas made the announcement on Thursday in a video on his YouTube channel.

According to Thomas, the 54,000 square foot building will be converted into an indoor bike park with three floors of bike tracks, an observation deck for parents and family, and areas for events.

Thomas said the building will also contain an apartment where guests can spend the night.

Thomas said the project is sponsored by the PHAST Foundation which stands for Promoting Health and Sevice Together.

“What we really like to do is we like to provide physical healthy activities for people, but then merge them with service,” Thomas said. “Every month we are going to have a local charity that we are going to try to help out.”

Thomas said the park will offer admission to those who may not be able to afford it financially by paying through acts of service.

Thomas said they would issue punch cards and after completing a set number of local service projects riders could get free admission to the park.

Thomas added the same punch card system could be used to purchase bikes and safety equipment.

According to its website, the PHAST Foundation was founded in 2009 and works to combine being healthy and serving others.

“We combine healthy activities and service projects together. Some of our races have included assembling gift bags for children in the hospital, assembling lunch sacks for people experiencing homelessness and tying quilts to donate to hospital patients. We also have provided and awarded college scholarships, presented our message to the youth in school assemblies and participated in Eagle Scout projects.”

Thomas said the building has been purchased thanks to angel investors and they plan to open the PHAST Tracks Indoor Mountain Bike Park in November of this year.
