QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) - Blue Devil Gym has been filled with prep basketball teams coming and going throughout the morning, as high school squads from California, Utah, West Virginia, Texas, and Georgia arrive in “The Gem City” to take part in the 4th Annual Quincy Shootout. Games got underway at 4:00 pm and both Blue Devil Gym and “The Pit” will host games during Day 1 of The Quincy Shootout. Games will get underway Saturday at 9:00 A.M. exclusively at Blue Devil Gym. That’s were event organizer Eric Stratman has been busy all day making sure teams arrived and had a chance to practice in the historic facility before their first scheduled game. Stratman has been a the gym since 9:00 A.M. That’s where our WGEN Sports Cam caught up with one of the key event organizers as he shared a little insight on some of the talent that will be competing on the hardwood during the next 48 hours in the city of Quincy.

It would be fair to say that 2022 may well be remembered “The Year Of The Freshmen” within that ranks of the QHS basketball team. With several underclassmen playing prominent roles on this years team that has posted a record of (17-3), it would be quite a fair statement. Leading the charge for the talented 9th graders at QHS is guard Bradley Longcor, III. The 6-foot-2 phenom continues to draw high praise for Blue Devils head coach Andy Douglas as the “Blue and White” sit high atop the Western Big 6 Conference standings. We’ll check in with both coach Douglas and Longcor at Blue Devil Gym.
