QUINCY (WGEM) - The up-and-down temperatures could land you on the side of the road if you’re not checking on your car, and we’re not talking about your battery.

Spring Street Automotive Owner, Mark Holtmeyer, said when the temperatures fluctuate so much they can cause your tires to lose small amounts of air pressure.

He suggests checking the tire pressure over time because driving on low pressure can put stress on your tires, and could lead to a blowout.

“After time, that accumulates. Then, you start losing and then you get your tires down to 20 pounds and then you might jump off a curb, or something, and you might knock that tire off the bead,” Holtmeyer said. “So if you do that, hopefully, you stop and you can save your tire.”

Holtmeyer said you should not let your tire pressure get seven pounds, or more, below the recommended pressure.
