QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) - The best way to get better at anything is to simply keep working at improving each and everyday. That’s a practice that the majority of coaches, especially in the prep ranks simply believe in. You know....remember the old saying....”Practice makes perfect!” Quincy High head basketball coach Andy Douglas certainly does. After beating Rock Island-Alleman on the hardwood on Tuesday night 66 to 33 at Blue Devil Gym, QHS was back at practice earlier today continuing to work on getting better, especially on defense. The (18-4) “Blue and White” are now a perfect (9-0) in the WB6 standings after rolling past the Pioneers in “The Gem City!” Coach Douglas took timeout from drills to offer some insight on the victory over Alleman as the squad prepares for their next challenge on Friday night against the Golden Warriors of Sterling. In Rushville, Illinois on Wednesday afternoon, one of the top multi-sport performers in the prep ranks from the “Land Of Lincoln” signed a National Letter of Intent. That’s right Rushville-Industry running back Tanner Spencer signed his NLI just after 2:15 p.m. with his proud parents, grandparents, and teammates looking on inside the RIHS gymnasium. At Southeastern High in Augusta, Illinois, Suns baseball standout Kyle O’Neal was all smiles as he signed his National Letter of Intent with Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Missouri. O’Neal has been a versatile player for the Suns throughout his prep career on the diamond playing Left and Right Field as well as first base. The future Business major was also a part of the Suns squad that won a IHSA Regional Championship last season. We’ll check in with Mr. O’Neal during his big day in the local sports spotlight.
