FORT MADISON (WGEM) - A Fort Madison city council member announced her candidacy for state office.

Rebecca Bowker will be running to represent Iowa’s 100th House district.

She said she’s focusing her campaign on the issues facing those in Southeast Iowa like childcare, education, public transportation, housing and economic development.

“I’m not afraid to ask the tough questions. I’m not afraid to challenge false narratives and I feel that I do my homework,” she said. “I’m not going to make decisions that are emotionally based. I’m going to look at the information.”

Bowker has spent the last two years representing Fort Madison’s first ward.

She will face off against Republican incumbent Martin Graber.
