QUINCY (WGEM) - Sam Houston State University Professor Benjamin Park hosted a reading and book signing for his book, Kingdom of Nauvoo. The book features a historical look into Hancock County’s Nauvoo, telling the story of its rise and fall between 1839 and 1846 and how American religion and politics played a part.

“I’ve come out to speak as part of Quincy Historical Society’s new city of refuge fund, where they’re raising money,” said author and professor, Benjamin Park. “Based on this great story as Quincy serving as a refuge for the latter day saints. I’d recently written a book on Nauvoo which is a story about how the Saints built a city following the great generosity of Quincy, literally saving them at their deepest moment of need.”

Dozens of people attended the event put on by the Quincy Historical Society.

They said their next event will be a trivia night on March 19 at 7 p.m.
