QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) - The 49th Annual Pepsi Little People’s Golf Championships has now come to a close in “The Gem City” after 2 fantastic days of youth golf action. Competition taking plays on the greens, featuring young golfers from ages 3 to 18, at both Westview and The Knights of Columbus Par 3 Course, has certainly been exciting to watch from start to finish. The WGEM Sports-Cam caught up with Pepsi Little People’s Golf Championships Founder and Executive Director Nan Ryan on the greens to get her take on this years festivities as organizers begin to plan for the tourney’s golden anniversary year.

Western Illinois has a new Director Of Intercollegiate Athletes now preparing to help take the Leathernecks to a new level of excellence in the years ahead. The challenges will be tough but Paul Bubb believes he’s ready to take them on and find positive solutions. Solutions that the Monmouth and WIU graduate hopes will help enable the Leathernecks to once again find success, both on and off the field. Bubb also has a special message for the thousands of WIU Alums that live and work in “The Gem City!”

At Pepsi Arena this week, there has been a different type of buzz and excitement in the air. This of course is due in part to the annual “QU Hawks Summer Kids Basketball Camp” being held on campus this week. Youngsters in grades K=8 have been hard at work on the hardwood since Monday learning some of the fundamentals surrounding the game, and just having fun with camp coaches while developing new friendships as well. New QU Hawks head coach Steve Hawkins (now preparing to start his second tenure on the bench with the Hawks) loves having the youngsters in the gym as they enjoy playing the round ball game. We’ll check in with Coach Hawkins for a few thoughts...
