MACOMB (WGEM) - After about three months of being closed to the public, the VIP Rialto Cinema in Macomb could be soon re-opening.

The theater was shut down by the city in January when a routine fire inspection revealed electrical and roof issues.

Mayor Michael Inman said the Vice President of Operations for VIP Cinemas visited Macomb last week. Inman said VIP reached out to meet with himself and key stakeholders in the community.

Inman said the roof has been repaired and VIP has been working on the internal issues.

He said following a city inspection, the theater will be up and running again.

“We’ll get our folks back in there, make sure that they’ve passed all the inspections and if that’s doable, we want that to happen,” Inman said. “We would be excited to have that happen and the sooner that can happen, the better I think the community will be.”

Inman said after meeting with the VP of operations, he was optimistic they could open by May 1.

“A movie theater, no matter what size a town you are, is a big driver for community quality of life, keeping people here to be entertained,” Inman said. “So, we’re looking forward to them coming back online very soon.”
