Business owners provide insight on the impact of National Tom Sawyer Days
QUINCY (WGEM) - As the 70th National Tom Sawyer Days nears an end, local downtown Hannibal business owners showcase how much of an impact the festival had.
Hundreds of tourists and residents have poured into Hannibal over the past week. This leads to them shopping, eating, and exploring the downtown area.
According to Clemens and Java Jive Owner Katy Welch, Java Jive had a line outside the building serving customers for several hours early Saturday morning.
She also said festivals such as National Tom Sawyer Days can make or break a business.
“I would definitely say, yeah, that there are businesses that are living for this week, but this for us kind of feels like the kick off, so you know, we bring a ton of people in for this week, and it’s really kind of the start to the heaviest part of the season for us,” Welch said.
Welch added she believes the re-opening of the Hannibal bridge has played a small factor in the number of people coming to town.
