Missing fisherman found dead after disappearing for more than 3 weeks, family says

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU/Gray News) - Family members say the body of a fisherman who went missing last month has been found.

Loved ones say David Meyer, 62, was found last Thursday after being reported missing on June 11.

“Our family is heartbroken. The past weeks have been filled with fear, unanswered questions, and unimaginable pain. While we are grateful to have found him and have some closure, the grief of losing him is immense,” the family shared via a GoFundMe set up to cover expenses related to his loss.

According to his daughter, Chantrelle Meyer, her father had gone fishing in a kayak and failed to return that night. Search efforts began that evening.

According to the U.S. Coast Guard, a kayak was found that night near where the 62-year-old was last reported to be, but there was no sign of him.

Loved ones described Meyer as a courageous person who was known for his humor and love for the outdoors.

“Whether he was casting a line, helping a neighbor, or sharing a laugh around a fire, David lived fully and gave endlessly,” they shared.

Troopers noted that human remains were found by a fishing charter in Cook Inlet near Anchor Point on July 3.
