Mother of Genesis Reid charged with capital murder, officials to search landfill for child’s remains

ENTERPRISE, Ala. (WTVY/Gray News) - Authorities in Alabama charged the mother of a missing toddler with capital murder and corpse abuse on Monday afternoon.

Adrienne Reid is accused of the crimes, although searchers have not yet found the body of her 2-year-old daughter, Genesis.

Genesis was reported missing on Feb. 16. However, charging documents allege the child was killed on Christmas Day 2025.

Enterprise Police Chief Michael Moore said video was obtained that allegedly shows Reid throwing a duffel bag with Genesis’ remains into a dumpster.

Moore said Genesis had visited relatives in Dothan on Dec. 25 and returned home late that night.

Coffee County Sheriff Scott Byrd said a massive search for the remains is planned in a landfill using modern techniques and specialized equipment.

The search area has been narrowed to no more than 200 square feet, but Byrd warned the process to find the decomposed remains will be tedious.

“We have a team of experts from Atlanta coming in this week,” Byrd said.

Coffee County District Attorney James Tarbox promised to seek the death penalty in the case.

A cause of death was not revealed, which would likely be difficult to prove given the body’s anticipated condition.

Reid already faces charges of making false statements to officers when reporting her daughter missing from their Apache Drive home on Feb. 16.

Moore praised the people of Enterprise for providing tips in the investigation and thanked numerous law enforcement agencies that assisted.
