Police department credits Flock cameras in capture of child kidnapping suspect

DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY/Gray News) - A woman wanted for kidnapping a child in Florida is behind bars after drones and license plate readers tracked her to Alabama.

Jenay Dominique Burns, 38, was taken into custody without incident Wednesday. Investigators with the Dothan Police Department and Houston County Sheriff’s Office worked alongside the U.S. Marshals Service Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force to coordinate the arrest.

The search began when the Orlando Police Department notified local authorities that Burns was in Alabama. Burns was wanted in Orange County, Florida, for kidnapping a minor and probation revocation, and was believed to be traveling with an endangered child younger than 10.

Florida investigators used Flock cameras to confirm Burns’ vehicle was in Dothan, Alabama. Drone operators with the Dothan Police Department then spotted Burns’ red Nissan Rogue driving down West Main Street.

Officers flooded the area, executed a tactical traffic stop, arrested Burns and booked her into the Houston County Jail, where she remains held without bond, awaiting extradition back to Florida.

The missing child was safely recovered from the vehicle. Alabama officials are working with Florida authorities to reunite the child with family members.
