Foster son of Ree Drummond, ‘The Pioneer Woman,’ arrested on drug and assault charges after allegedly hitting a police officer

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC/Gray News) - The foster son of Ree Drummond, widely known as The Pioneer Woman, was arrested Sept. 14 on drug and assault charges after he allegedly hit a police officer.

According to University of Alabama at Birmingham Police, an officer responded to a report of a suspicious person asleep on a bench near a fountain.

When questioned, 23-year-old Jamar Goff told the officer he was waiting to buy “ice,” another name for methamphetamine, according to police.

When the officer attempted to arrest Goff, he allegedly “assumed an aggressive stance” and ran down the street, according to court documents.

Officers chased Goff near the UAB Women and Infants Center and Children’s Hospital of Alabama. When an officer attempted to cut off Goff’s path near the emergency entrance, Goff slapped the officer in the chin.

Assisting officers were able to get Goff on the ground and pepper spray him before handcuffing him, according to police.

After Goff’s arrest, police recovered a discarded backpack, a wallet with Goff’s Cash App card, a glass pipe with burnt residue and baggies containing suspected methamphetamine that tested positive in the field. Additional baggies and suspected methamphetamine were later found on Goff during the booking process at the Jefferson County Jail, according to court records.

Goff was evaluated at the hospital before being booked into jail.

He is charged with second-degree assault for assault on a law enforcement officer; unlawful possession of a controlled substance; attempting to elude a law enforcement officer and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Goff’s bond is set at $37,000.
